International Eventing Stars at Puhinui

The  appearance of our most famous international eventer will add a real shine to this year’s Puhinui 3 Day Event.  The World No 1 ranked Eventing Rider, Andrew Nicholson, will be attending the Manukau event – his first appearance at a New Zealand horse trial for well over ten years.  Fresh from a huge and successful season on the European circuit, Andrew will be at Puhinui Reserve on Thursday afternoon for the trot up (vet inspection) and all day Friday, the first day of the competition.

As well as Andrew (as if that wasn't exciting enough), we will also have Joe Meyer visiting, during a quick trip home from his Florida base.   Lizzie Brown, fresh from her amazing win at Boekelo 3 day event in the Netherlands, will also be there, as will Clarke Johnstone and Blyth Tait, also freshly back from the UK.

While at this stage none of the international riders will be competing (although this may change, if rumours are true), they have an action packed schedule.  Most notably, Andrew Nicholson will be making an appearance at the event on Friday. Everyone is invited to attend a cross country course walk with Andrew on Friday morning.

A “Fan Zone” is being set up near the main ring and will be used for media interviews at various times during the competition as well as a venue for everyone to get a chance to interact with the stars.  Andrew will be the first to utilise this area at Friday lunchtime, giving everyone the opportunity to come along and hear his tips and advice, and a few stories. There will be time to ask questions and maybe even get an autograph or a photo with the World No 1 Eventing Rider!

Saturday is the most exciting and dramatic days of any three day event; cross country day.  Horses and riders tackle a challenging course spread over the beautiful Auckland Council owned Puhinui Reserve.  The water jump in the main arena always provides some drama, so while you are visiting the many catering stalls you won’t miss a bit of the action.

Sunday the 8th of December is showjumping day and there will be an opportunity for the general public to walk the Honda New Zealand CCI3* showjumping track and learn something about this important phase.

Having these international riders at Puhinui will certainly give the event even more of a buzz than normal so it is strongly suggested you start making your plans on how you can be part of this action – with or without your horse!
